Finding new and alternative uses for natural resources is becoming more commonly recognized as an important component in development projects whatever the sector, be they focused on Food Security issues, social – economic development, Poverty eradication, water, Education and Health. Many pastoralist in Kenya are finding traditional economic activities becoming absolute, or do not give them any comparative advantage in the global market place. Some of the factors that have contributed to this seeming stagnation or lack of innovations are: ignorance of the market opportunities; conditions; requirements and standard; lack of access to the market; lack of marketing skills; lack of processing plants for value additions; poor packaging processing procedures that are too expensive or too technical or to be undertaken on grass root level. However with the right inputs, local resources have the potential to increase incomes and / or create employment opportunities for local communities.
